Wales Water charged over health scare bug
Apartment For Rent North Wales: Welsh Water has been charged by the Drinking Water Inspectorate with five counts of supplying water unfit for human consumption after a bug hit customers.
The bug cryptosporidium affected more than 230 who drank water from a Snowdonia reservoir in November 2005. About 70,000 homes in parts of Gwynedd and Anglesey whose water was supplied from the Llyn Cwellyn reservoir at Rhyd-ddu, were told to boil their drinking water for two months after the outbreak.
231 people fell ill with the bug which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. Diane McCrea, Chair of the Consumer Council for Water Wales, said: "We are very disappointed that this outbreak happened in the first place. Customers expect their water quality to be of a high standard consistently, and I'm sure those affected by this bug will want reassurance that this will not happen again.
